I am very very late in posting the comments… I found your site just now.
I agree with your comments

Finally I found some one who is thinking same way. Cloud computing is just a metaphor of internet. People are saying SOA is over… Actually I think
Grid computing, SOA, cloud computing are different stage of IT progression.
Web services, SOA are redefining cloud computing.

Do power utilities make a profit?

Cloud computing providers will be tomorrow utilities, likely regulated with a reasonable profit margin.

If the cycle continues you know what comes next, but I wonder if we will ever see the profits on an enterprise scale.
